How do I convert text to PDF?
Type or paste your text into the editor, or open a .txt file. Choose a font, a page size and margins, check the preview of the first page, and click Convert & download PDF. The PDF is saved to your device straight away.
Can I convert a Notepad or TXT file to PDF?
Yes. Notepad saves plain .txt files, which this tool opens directly in any of the encodings Notepad uses: UTF-8, Unicode (UTF-16) or ANSI. The file’s name becomes the header of each page and the name of the PDF. Log files, CSV files, Markdown and other plain-text files open the same way.
Will the text in the PDF be searchable?
Yes. The converter writes real text into the PDF, not an image of it, so you can search, select and copy it in any PDF reader. Only the characters your text uses are embedded from the font, which keeps the file small.
Which languages are supported?
Every language written in the Latin, Greek or Cyrillic alphabet, including all Western and Eastern European languages, Turkish, Vietnamese, Russian and Ukrainian. Characters outside those scripts, such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, emoji and a few symbols, print as a question mark. The tool lists them under the editor before you convert.
Why do some letters look wrong after I open my file?
Older text files are often saved in a legacy encoding rather than UTF-8. The converter detects UTF-8, UTF-16 and Windows-1252 automatically and shows the encoding it used next to the file name. If accented letters or Cyrillic come out garbled, choose another encoding from the list, such as Windows-1251 for Russian or Windows-1250 for Central European languages, and the file is read again.
How do I keep tables and columns aligned?
Use the Monospace font, which is the default. Every character is the same width, as in Courier New, and tabs stop every 8 columns, so text lined up with spaces or tabs stays lined up in the PDF. A line too long for the page wraps onto the next one; choose a smaller font size or landscape orientation to keep it on one line.
Can I add page numbers, line numbers or a header?
Yes. Page numbers, as "Page 1 of 5", are on by default. Tick Line numbers to number each line of your text, and type a header to print it at the top of every page. When you open a file, its name is used as the header, and you can change or clear it.
Is there a file size limit?
You can open text files of up to 10 MB, which is thousands of pages. A large file takes a few seconds longer to convert, and the tool shows its progress page by page. Text from a printer or report that contains page breaks (form feeds) keeps them, so each part starts on a new page.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Your text is read and converted by your own browser. It is never uploaded to our servers, so nothing is stored or shared.
Can I convert formatted text with headings and bold?
This tool prints your text exactly as written, without formatting. For headings, bold, lists, tables and links, write your document in Markdown and use our free Markdown to PDF converter, or use HTML to PDF for full control over the layout.
