What does resizing a PDF do?
Resizing changes the paper size of every page, for example from US Letter to A4, and scales the existing content onto the new page. The text, images and layout of each page stay the same; only the page dimensions and the size of the content change.
How do I convert a PDF from US Letter to A4?
Upload your PDF, choose A4 as the target page size, keep Orientation on "Match each page" and Content scaling on Fit, then click Resize & download. Each page is scaled to fit A4 without cropping, and landscape pages stay landscape.
What is the difference between Fit, Stretch and Center?
Fit scales the content proportionally until it fits inside the new page, so nothing is cropped or distorted. Stretch scales the width and height separately so the content fills the new page exactly, which changes its proportions when the two page shapes differ. Center keeps the content at its original size and places it in the middle of the new page; if the new page is smaller, the edges are cropped.
Can I resize a PDF to a custom size?
Yes. Choose Custom size and enter a width and height in millimetres, inches or points. Any size from about 1 mm up to 5 m on each side is accepted, which covers everything from labels and receipts to large-format posters.
What happens to pages with different sizes or orientations?
Every page is resized to the size you choose. With Orientation set to "Match each page", portrait pages get a portrait sheet and landscape pages get a landscape one, so a mixed document keeps its layout. Choose Portrait or Landscape to make every page the same way round.
Will resizing reduce the quality of my PDF?
No. The pages are scaled as vector content, so text and shapes stay sharp at any size and images are not re-compressed. The file size stays about the same. If you also need a smaller file, use our free Compress PDF tool after resizing.
Is it safe to resize my PDF here?
Yes. The PDF is read and resized by your own browser. It is never uploaded to our servers, so nothing is stored or shared.
Can I resize a password-protected PDF?
Not directly. An encrypted PDF cannot be rewritten until its password is removed. Use our free Unlock PDF tool to remove it, then resize the unlocked file.
